1909-1911 T206 White Borders Collection (121)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $8,700.00

Collection of 121 T206 White Borders (mostly different, includes a few duplicates) ranging in grade from Fr to Vg (mostly Gd). The collection is highlighted by twenty-six Hall of Famers, including Ty Cobb, two Cy Youngs, and scarcities such as the rare Elberfeld/Wash (port.), and future Black Sox member Chick Gandil. Highlights: Baker (Vg), Bender/no trees (Vg), Brown/Chicago (Tolstoi back, Gd-Vg), Chance/batting (Vg-Ex), Chance/yellow (Tolstoi back, Gd), Cobb/red (Fr-Gd), Duffy (American Beauty back, Fr-Gd), Elberfeld/Wash - port. (Fr-Gd), Evers/Chicago (Cycle back, Vg), Gandil/Black Sox (Fr), Griffith/bat (American Beauty back, Fr-Gd), Huggins/hands at mouth (Tolstoi back, Gd-Vg), Huggins/port. (Fr-Gd), Johnson/port. (Gd), Joss/port. (Fr-Gd), Marquard/port. (Fr-Gd), Mathewson/dark cap (Vg bordering on Vg-Ex), Mathewson/white cap (Fr-Gd), McGraw/port. no cap (Fr), McGraw/port. w/cap (Vg-Ex), Speaker (Fr), Tinker/hands on knees (Hindu back, Fr), Waddell/port. (Hindu back, Fr-Gd), Wheat (Vg bordering on Vg-Ex), Willis/port. (Fr-Gd), Willis/throwing (Gd-Vg), Young/glove shows (Fr), and Young/port. (Gd-Vg). This is a very appealing collection of cards saved and consigned by the family of the original owner, direct from "the olden days," a little rough but still very collectable, and ideal for the collector who does not want to spend a fortune, buts wants real, original 1910-era tobacco cards which capture the spirit of the history of the game and the joy of collecting. We especially enjoy offering mixed-grade groups like these because they make the collecting of the most classic baseball card issues possible and more accessible to a wider audience. Backs are mainly Sweet Caporal and Piedmont, but also included are American Beauty (17), Cycle (4), Hindu (5), and Tolstoi (9). These T206s are from the very same collection as the Uzits and several other rare T206 backs which are offered separately in this auction. Total 121 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $8,700.00
