1903 E107 Breisch-Williams Roy Thomas

Starting Bid - $100.00, Sold For - $1,856.00

Graded POOR 10 by SGC. Rare sample card from the legendary E107 Breisch-Williams series featuring outfielder Roy Thomas from the Philadelphia Phillies of the National League. (Note: This card is misidentified by The Standard Catalog and the SGC label as Ira Thomas, who did not begin his Major League career until 1906 with the NY Highlanders.) Breisch-Williams E107s have always held a very special place in the hearts of advanced baseball card collectors. Issued in 1903, these unusual and classic-looking black and white caramel cards have long been revered by collectors as they represent the only major baseball card set of the era. This set fills the void between the popular photographic cards of the 1880s and the many tobacco and caramel card issues of the 1910 era, and includes many players that appear in no other sets. Rarely is a set accorded more respect by scholars than E107, and rarely is a set more worthy of such collector interest. Attractive sample which appears much better than its technically accurate assigned grade. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$400. SOLD FOR $1,856.00
