Circa 1920 Edd Roush Cigar Box

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,160.00

This extremely rare wooden cigar box opens to reveal a label picturing Hall of Famer Edd Roush in his Reds uniform. The top of the box reads "Edd Roush Superiores Cigar." On the exterior side panel the name "Edd Roush" is bordered by a gold floral design. Roush was the biggest star of the 1919 World Champion Reds. He led the National League in batting with a .321 average in 1919. The box is intact, the top is slightly warped and has been neatly rehinged with linen tape. The inside label is complete with two one-inch scrapes, mentioned for accuracy and not affecting the overall appearance of the box or Roush's portrait. Excellent condition overall. Dimensions: 9 x 5.25 x 2.5 inches. This box was once a part of the legendary Barry Halper Collection. It appeared as Lot #2182 in the famous Halper auction, and at that time sold for $1,725. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $1,160.00
