Circa 1910 Score Card Cigar Tin

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,276.00

Colorful "Score Card" brand cigar tin features an elaborately designed label which looks like a scorecard, with an all-star lineup of the era's greatest players on each side. Included are Collins, Cobb, Wagner (yes, Wagner again), Baker, Daubert, Mathewson, and Archer. While we don't really believe that Wagner was ever consulted about the use of his name by Score Card Cigars, we can't help but notice that his name or likeness appears on quite a few tobacco-related products. Based on the factory and tax information which is a part of the label's design, we believe that Score Card brand cigars were manufactured and sold regionally in Pennsylvania. This is a particularly rare, unusual, and striking tin, the first and only example we have ever seen. Designed to hold only twenty cigars (as opposed to fifty), the "Score Card" cigar tin is slightly smaller than most cigar tins of the era. Diameter: 3.5 inches. Height: 5.25 inches. A few tiny imperfections to the label of no consequence to its extraordinary display value. Overall in Excellent condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,276.00
