1981 Rochester Red Wings Team Signed Baseball with Cal Ripken

Historically significant Official International League baseball signed by nineteen members of the Rochester Red Wings 1981 minor league team, including its star player, Cal Ripken Jr. The red ink signatures grade "8/9" overall. Ripken was called up from the Rochester farm team to join the Baltimore Orioles immediately following the 1981 players' strike, and thus began his record-breaking streak of consecutive games played, long held by baseball's original "Iron Man," Lou Gehrig. Ripken, who holds many Major League honors, was voted Rookie of the Year in the International League during this season, and was picked as the top Major League prospect in a survey of league executives.
