Tremendous 1950s to 1980s Autographed Items Collection (400)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $3,480.00

Fascinating collection of 400 autographed items assembled from the 1950s to the 1980s by Jim Davidson, in person and by mail. An additional approximately 70 items are included which have facsimile (preprinted) or secretarial signatures. None of these facsimile or secretarial signatures are listed among the highlights detailed below. The collection consists of photographs, magazine covers, letters, endorsed checks, newspaper and magazine photos, advertising pieces, and various other items, each signed by players, almost all stars and Hall of Famers. Most of the collection is mounted in 16 1970s-style photo albums which have pages with light adhesive backing and plastic protective overlay. Approximately 85 percent of the collection is stuck to the photo album pages. Some will obviously come out very easily. Others may be very difficult. We have not attempted to remove any of these items, but very possibly, with a little patience and the right technique, many or most could be removed. All can be appreciated as is, of course, and the pages themselves can easily be removed from the albums. Some of the many highlights are listed below (with quantities in parenthesis), but the collection is loaded with much more. There are too many names to list, but a complete list is available upon request. 1) 53 signed Sporting News covers including Weaver, Brett, McGwire, Mize, Seaver, Bench, Garvey, Jackson, Palmer, Murphy, Ryan, etc. 2) 225 signed magazine photo pages, magazine covers, and newspaper clippings including Cobb (3), Roush (3), L. Waner, Stengel (3), Musial (6), Slaughter (4), Mize (2), Irvin (6), Seaver (3), McGwire, Jeter (4), K. Wood, and many more. 3) 192 photos, cards, letters, booklets, checks, postcards including Bender (2), Musial, L. Waner, Mize, Kluszewski, E. Howard, Berra, Mattingly, B. Robinson, Palmer, Ripken (4), Feller, and much more. 85% are autographed (signatures range from "7" to "9" overall). This collection was assembled by Jim Davidson, the very same gentleman who assembled the extraordinary signed government postcard collection offered elsewhere in this catalog. Most of the signed items in this collection were assembled during Mr. Davidson's "second wind" of collecting in the 1970s and early 1980s, but included are many signed items (including signatures of Cobb, Stengel, Musial, etc.) dating from Mr. Davidson's early days of collecting in the 1950s. We can't guarantee problem-free removal of all items from the albums if desired, but many items are not affixed at all, many others can be easily removed, and we are confident that even if individual items can't be removed, the pages to which they are affixed can still be separated from the rest of the collection if desired. This is a very substantial original collection, with tremendous break value, which would serve as a great start to a serious baseball autograph collection. Total 470 items (approximately 400 signed, and 70 stamped or secretarial). LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $3,480.00
