1923 Signed Baseball Including Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $4,640.00

This blue and red stitched, well-toned Official American League (Johnson) ball is signed by twenty-three players, including Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb, in black ink. Dating from the 1923 season, signatures on this ball include members from three different American League teams: the New York Yankees (three signatures), Detroit Tigers (fifteen signatures), and St. Louis Browns (five signatures). The signers are Babe Ruth (sweet spot, very desirable early "Babe" in quotes signature style), Ty Cobb, Harry Heilmann (led league in hitting in 1923, .403 average), Heinie Manush (rookie of the year), Clyde Manion, Bill Jacobson, Hank Severeid, George Dauss, Bobby Veach, Topper Rigney, Ray Francis, Lu Blue, Dutch Schliebnes, Jack Tobin, Johnny Bassler, Bob Jones, Del Pratt, Ken Williams, Fred Haney, Everett Scott, Sam Jones, Ken Halloway, and Arthur Olsen. The signatures are quite dark and bold, ranging in grade from "5" to "8." The ball has a very light coat of protective shellac, with bold manufacturing stampings. This is a very interesting and unique signed ball from the early 1920s, with four Hall of Famers, and one of the very few in existence from this era featuring both Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb together on the same ball. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $4,640.00
