1901 Adrian C. Anson Signed Presentation Book Page

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $2,088.00

Presentation page (5.25 x 7.5 inches) neatly removed from a signed copy of Cap Anson's book (A Ball Player's Career, published in 1900), beautifully signed and inscribed "Chicago Dec 25th 1901 - Merry Christmas to my old friend Emma B. Ross - Adrian C. Anson" ("8") in black fountain pen. The reverse of the page has an impressive full-page black and white studio image of Anson in full uniform with a bat at his side. This page was originally in the very front of Anson's book. Anson full-name signatures are exceedingly rare. This is one of fewer than five that we have ever seen. It is understandable that Anson would carefully write his full first name when inscribing his own book, of which he was very proud, for a Christmas gift to a personal friend. We have had only one signed Anson book over the years, which appeared in our May 1995 auction, and that book was also signed with a rare full-name signature. Very clean, with no tears, just a little edge wear and a couple extremely insignificant creases of no consequence, overall Very Good to Excellent condition. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $2,088.00
