1934 Goudey #5 Ed Brandt PSA NM-MT 8

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $4,060.00

Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. One of seven examples graded at this level with none graded higher. Boston Braves pitcher Ed Brandt started the 1931 season with eight straight wins on his way to an 18-10 mark, and followed with several more strong seasons. He often pinch hit, and he led all pitchers in hitting with a .309 batting average in 1933. The offered specimen is centered very slightly toward the top border (40/60), with four square corners, bright and crisp, and perfectly clean both front and back. We have found that the auction selling prices of cards from extremely popular sets with very low populations in the highest grades often sell for far more than SMR, and this is especially the case with classic vintage sets such as 1934 Goudey. Very low number cards in 1933 and 1934 Goudey (such as this 1934 Goudey #5 Ed Brandt) are particularly rare in extremely high grade, as these cards tended to gravitate toward the top of stacks of cards and experience more wear. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $4,060.00
