1933 Babe Ruth Signed Photo from Hawaii

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $4,025.00

Spectacular black-and-white photograph (4-7/8" x 7") is flawlessly signed in bold black fountain pen by Babe Ruth ("10") and the Governor of Hawaii, Lawrence M. Judd ("8/9"). The photo pictures Ruth in full uniform, standing on the field flanked by Governor Judd and another gentleman, who is labeled on the reverse of the photo as Mr. Hunter - Mgr. The photo was taken by photographer Fritz Kraft at the Honolulu Stadium in 1933, who is credited in the lower right. Neatly written notes in pencil on the reverse of the photo read "Mr Hunter, MGR./Babe Ruth/Govenor Judd/Honolulu, T.H/ 1933." Between 1933 and 1934, Hawaii's first sports promoter, J. Ashman Beaven, brought baseball celebrities such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Jimmy Foxx, to entertain Hawaii's sports fans. This signed photo dates from this time. The photo has a very small imperfection (possibly a repaired surface tear) to the very far right of the large white border margin, which is of no consequence to the photograph or its appearance, and a couple touches of small pieces of tape at the top of the reverse (from long ago being stored in an album or possibly relating to at one time being framed), otherwise in strong Near Mint condition. A very unusual, interesting, and very likely unique Ruth photograph from his early 1930's tour of Hawaii, with one of the boldest, most impressive and perfect Babe Ruth signatures in the collecting world. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000. SOLD FOR $4,025.00
