1910 E125 American Caramel Die-Cuts Collection Including Mathewson (3)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $4,025.00

Collection of three E125 American Caramel is highlighted by Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson. The lot includes: 1) Christy Mathewson, N.Y. Nationals. There are exactly three E125 Mathewsons known to exist. The first example, discovered many years ago, was missing the tabs which allow the card to stand. Several years ago a collection of 15 E125s surfaced to the hobby which included two additional Mathewson examples. Both of these Mathewsons had the two side tabs present, but detached. This is one of those two. It is by far the best of the three known examples in terms of condition, despite its flaws. When the tabs are properly placed, the card displays beautifully as a complete card in Ex-Mt condition. All three sections (the primary body of the card and the two tabs) are Ex-Mt. If desired, the tabs could be reattached professionally with adhesive. The reverse, with advertisement and checklist, is also perfectly clean and without flaws. This is one of the rarest of all E125s and all Mathewson cards. 2) Murray, New York Nationals. Tabs complete and intact. Nice clean card with the only flaws being a tiny one-quarter inch vertical tear (no paper loss) along bottom border which is not detectable unless the card is being handled and very carefully examined (displays as a tiny hairline crease), and a little creasing visible from the reverse along the perforation of the right tab from long ago being folded as intended, otherwise in Excellent condition, and definitely with a strong Excellent overall appearance. 3) Wilson, Pittsburgh. Tabs complete and intact. The card has some small areas of surface chipping primarily in the tab area, a light crease across Wilson's chest, and a few small creases on his throwing arm and hand. Still a clean card in overall Good to Very Good condition. Total 3 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $4,025.00
