1937 Babe Ruth Single-Signed Baseball

Starting Bid - $1,500.00, Sold For - $3,737.50

Absolutely stunning Babe Ruth single-signed baseball, on an extremely attractive and very unusual Reach "Lively Flyer" brand baseball, with extraordinarily bold manufacturer's markings. The "Lively Flyer" model is ever so slightly smaller than a standard Major League Reach ball (appears to be full size but when measured is 8.5 inches in circumference, as opposed to the standard regulation 9 inches), and was made in Canada. The ball is beautifully signed "To Lew Sutherland/From Babe Ruth/Nov. 22nd 1937" ("9") in black ink across the sweet spot. Ruth presented this ball during a duck-hunting trip to Canada in 1937. The ball is accompanied by a letter from the original owner, dated 1991, which details the ball's history. It reads in part: "Babe Ruth was a prolific 'duck hunter' + visited Nova Scotia Canada for many hunting trips in the 1930's. My grandfather...hunted with Babe Ruth (as a guide). Mr. Ruth signed this baseball for his son (my uncle)...during one of these trips. The ball has been in my family since 1937." An outstanding and unique Ruth signed baseball, with date notations in Ruth's hand, and an exceptionally strong signature. The ball is a tremendous high-grade example, in Ex-Mt condition, with all manufacturer's markings extremely bold. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000. SOLD FOR $3,737.50
