Circa 1910 Honus Wagner Cigar Band

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,840.00

Honus Wagner cigar band features a full-color portrait of Wagner, and was designed to be a part of the packaging for a brand of cigars endorsed by Wagner. This, of course, has great irony in that Wagner is so well known for the famous legend of his T206 baseball card. This band, and other materials relating to Honus Wagner cigars, may in fact not be inconsistent with the Wagner anti-tobacco legend. We say this because all Honus Wagner Cigar labels and bands appear to be proofs, which were never actually used in the marketing of cigars, suggesting that for some reason the Wagner-endorsed cigars may never have actually been issued. This band is one of the few known Honus Wagner cigar bands, and one of the fewer still in perfect condition. Like other examples known, it is a proof, which was never actually wrapped around a cigar as designed. It is interesting to note that as rare as Honus Wagner Cigar labels are, the bands are even rarer. Near Mint to Mint. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,200/$2,500. SOLD FOR $1,840.00
