Circa 1840 Lemon Peel Baseball

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,725.00

Exceptional example of the earliest style baseball. Museum-quality relic dating from the dawn of the game. Very similar in style to the famous "Doubleday Ball" at the Hall of Fame, which according to Abner Graves was allegedly used by Abner Doubleday in 1839 to "invent" the game of baseball. Despite being somewhat fragile and brittle, due to its extreme age, the ball has survived in remarkably fine condition. Ideal for display. In Very Good condition, especially for a ball from this era. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,725.00
