Circa 1950 Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese Signed Photo

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $805.00

A wonderful and endearing black-and-white original photograph (8 x 10 inches) signed by two of the most popular Dodgers and Hall of Famers of the early 1950s, Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese. The image features them on the dugout steps posing with two lucky youngsters. Each player has signed ("8") and inscribed the photo boldly to "Jeremy and Johnny" in flowing black fountain pen. Signed 8 x 10 inch photos of these two are particularly rare, and have a very special significance. When Robinson broke into the majors, it was Pee Wee Reese who was the first player to actively and openly express unconditional acceptance and support for Robinson, embracing his presence on the team, and offering his friendship. The signatures and writing are not faded, but do contrast poorly in some places against the dark portions of the photo. Still, it is a magnificent and very rare signed example, with a special historical significance. The photograph has a tiny one-quarter inch tear in the bottom border and some very light creasing near the right border, both mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy, which do not in any way detract from the signatures or the splendid image, otherwise in Excellent condition. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $805.00
