1941 Babe Ruth Signed Photograph

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,162.50

Babe Ruth portrait photograph (7 x 8.75 inches) is beautifully inscribed and signed "To Kay, The Bowling Bambino, With Best Wishes Babe Ruth" ("8") in bold, black ink. The photograph exhibits crystal clear clarity, and features the "Bambino" in his Yankees uniform looking into the distance. Ruth had copies of this photograph made up specifically for him to sign and present as gifts. This is why, over the years, collectors will see other signed examples of this very image from time to time. The offered example features a particularly unusual and interesting salutation, referring to its recipient as "The Bowling Bambino." Ruth, by the way, was no stranger to bowling, which next to golf ranked as his favorite non-baseball sport. This photograph has been slightly trimmed, to its current dimensions, and has a chip in the upper right corner. These imperfections can easily be matted out. The date ("1941") below the magnificent black fountain pen signature has been added, and is not in Ruth's hand. Minor glue marks on reverse are mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy. A very presentable Ruth signed presentation photograph, with exceptional salutation and very strong signature, which will frame and display beautifully. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,162.50
