1939 NY Yankees World Champions Black Bat

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,265.00

This Hillerich & Bradsby commemorative bat is engraved "World Champions - 1939" in silver block letters on the barrel, surrounded by 25 names engraved in gold block letters or facsimile signatures, including those of Gehrig, Dickey, Gomez, DiMaggio, McCarthy, and many more. The presentation of black bats to players, friends of the club, and dignitaries as a keepsake of Championship seasons, is a tradition that began in the mid 1930s, and continues to this day. 1939 is a particularly early and rare year for a black bat. Also of special significance is the fact that this was Gehrig's last year with the Yankees. The barrel stampings are bold and the bat grades EX-MT overall. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $1,265.00
