1935 Babe Ruth Boston Braves Wire Photo

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $575.00

Description ammendment: We have learned that the identification of Jimmie McKechnie provided by the original wire photo caption is in error. The player standing to Ruth's right is actually Reds manager Chuck Dressen.

Original 1935 wire photo (7 x 9 inches) features Babe Ruth in his Boston Braves uniform in his final season as a player, with Hall of Famer Bill McKechnie (who was the Braves manager) and his son, Cincinnati infielder Jimmie McKechnie. The photo was taken in Tampa, Florida, at an exhibition game between the Boston Braves and Cincinnati Reds on March 10, 1935. This was Ruth's first game in a Braves uniform. He drove in one run with a single in four at bats, helping the Braves beat the Reds 5-3. The original caption, providing this information, is still affixed to reverse. Original photos of Ruth with the Braves are rarely seen, as he lasted only 28 games before announcing his retirement on June 2, 1935. "Acme Newsphoto" stamps on reverse. Upon close inspection, there is a very tiny pin hole in each corner and some very light horizontal surface scratches, otherwise Nr/Mt appearance. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $575.00
