Ray Dandrige and Ray Brown 1945-46 Caramelo Deportivo Card Production Photos

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $345.00

Two original photographs used in the production of the 1945-46 Cuban Caramelo Deportivo baseball card set. 1) The first photograph (3 ½" x 5") features Hall of Famer Ray Dandrige, pictured with Marianao. Dandridge is considered one of the best fielding third basemen of all time. Records credit him with a .355 lifetime average in the Negro Leagues, during a 10 year career spent primarily with the Newark Eagles. Dandridge played extensively in Latin America, including 11 years in Cuba and 10 years in Mexico, where he became a legend. 2) The second 1945-46 Caramelo Deportivo card production original photo (4" x 6") is of Ray Brown, featured with Alemendares. Brown was the ace of the Homestead Grays pitching staff, playing for the Grays for 17 seasons, including all of their nine straight championship seasons from 1937 to 1945. Brown won 28 straight games from 1936-37. Like Dandridge, Brown had a lengthy career in Latin America, including 5 years in Cuba. These are the actual original photos used in the production of this significant Cuban baseball card issue. The Dandrige photo is in Excellent condition. The Brown photo has a small corner crease, in the white border area only, in the lower left, and is otherwise in Excellent condition. Both photos have production related notations on reverse. Both photos are accompanied by an example of the issued card Dandrige is Ex. Brown is Vg-Ex. It is fascinating to see the slight crookedness of the Brown image on the original photo print translate exactly in this manner in the final production of the printed card, on which the image is similarly slightly askew. Total 4 items (2 photos and 2 cards). Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $345.00
