Circa 1903 Emmett Bowman Phila Giants Cabinet Photo

Circa 1903-06 professional studio cabinet photograph (6 x 9 inches) of Emmett Bowman of the Philadelphia Giants, featured at bat, in uniform. "Phillippi Studio (825 Arch St) of Phila." photographer's embossed imprint in lower right. The Philadelphia Giants, led by Rube Foster and Sol White etc. were one of the great early black teams of the 20th century. Emmett Bowman was a key member of this team, and one of the better players of the early part of the century. Bowman pitched and played all positions, and is prominently featured in Sol White's 1907 guide. Professional studio photographer cabinets of early Negro League players are virtually non-existent. The mount has a crease just below the photo, some minor flaking in upper left corner, and some scattered surface flaking to blank reverse. The actual photo is in Nr/Mt condition, with exceptional clarity. Overall Vg-Ex. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$400. SOLD FOR $1,380.00
