1915 Washington Senators Photo Postcard with Walter Johnson

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $920.00

Exceedingly rare real photo team postcard features 19 members of the 1915 Washington Senators, posed on the field, with grandstands in the background. This team includes Hall of Famers Walter Johnson and Clark Griffith (manager), as well as Chick Gandil, long before the Black Sox scandal of 1919. The 1915 Senators finished the season in fourth place with an 85-68 record. We have never seen another example of this postcard rarity. The quality of the image is astounding. Every uniform pinstripe can literally be counted. If players wore watches, we'd be able to tell you exactly what time this photo was taken. The postcard has a traditional preprinted postcard indicia reverse, and has never been mailed. The reverse exhibits a very light hint of glue staining, mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy, from long ago being mounted in a scrapbook. There is a tiny crease in the upper left corner, otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition, with flawless photo contrast. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $920.00
